ABOUT ONE YEAR IN MISSION +
One Year in Mission Plus (OYIM+) is a combined initiative of the General Conference Youth Department & Mission to the Cities Initiative, Lake Union Youth Department & Public Campus Ministries, and the Center for Adventist Ministry to Public University Students (CAMPUS).
It combines two very important GC programs: One Year in Mission and Urban Centers of Influence.
Two unique elements make One Year in Mission (OYiM) different from other mission endeavors by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. First, it brings together groups of young adults to tackle a mission challenge and opportunity together as one unit. Secondly, the specific focus of the mission is the cities of the world.
The Urban Centers of Influence (UCI) establishes centers in communities—especially urban areas with high concentrations of unreached people groups—for the purpose of implementing Christ’s method of reaching people. These urban centers are established in cities that have populations of more than 100,000 people. Unique ministry and mission approaches are implemented to reach
One Year in Mission+ brings together these two initiatives: OYiM and UCI. For 20 years, the Center for Adventist Ministry to Public University Students (CAMPUS) has trained hundreds of young adults and established church fellowships on college and university towns across the world. ONE YEAR IN MISSION SITES
East Lansing, MI
The city of East Lansing has a lot to offer in terms of its diversity. The Center for Adventist Ministry to Public University Students (CAMPUS) is located in East Lansing about two blocks from one of the largest universities in the US, Michigan State University, with approximately 50,000 students from all over the world.
Program Focus:
CAMPUS operates a center of influence near Michigan State University. We seek to train young missionaries to reach peers on a secular campus.
Program Cost: $7,450.00
Program Requirements:
The One Year In Mission Program in East Lansing requires that each participant canvasses two summers. The applicant must also be a baptized member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Demonstrate an ability to interact with people who may have an opposite world view.
Program Dates: May 2020 – July 2021
DETROIT, MI
Detroit is an urban city with a rich history. Motown, Henry Ford, and Rosa Parks are some of the most famous icons of Detroit. Today Detroit’s reputation doesn’t quite tell its story. The Greater Detroit Metropolitan area is home to a rich diversity of ethnicities including; Arabic, African, African American, to name a few.
Program Focus:
One In Year In Mission Detroit seeks to establish a campus ministry at Wayne State University & minister to the diverse communities of Detroit.
Program Cost: $6,000.00
Program Requirements:
The One Year In Mission Program in Detroit requires that each participant canvasses two summers. The applicant must also be a baptized member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Demonstrate an ability to interact with people who may have an opposite world view.
Program Dates: June 1 – May 31, 2021
BLOOMINGTON, IN
Indiana University is in a unique position in that following the 9/11 attacks parents from large metropolitan cities and around the world felt that our Midwestern school was a safe place to send their children. As such the student population in Bloomington is booming with no signs of slowing down.
Program Focus:
One Year In Mission Indiana seeks to establish a Center of Influence and Café near the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington.
Program Cost: $12,000.00
Program Requirements:
One year in mission Indiana requires that each participant spend two summers at a summer camp. The applicant must also be a baptized member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Demonstrate an ability to interact with people who may have an opposite world view.
Program Dates: June 1 – May 31, 2021
